Oceanside High School Academic Integrity Policy

At Oceanside High School, maintaining academic integrity is fundamental to fostering a community of learning, respect, and honesty. Academic integrity ensures fairness and trust among students, faculty, and staff. As members of this community, all students are expected to uphold the highest standards of honesty and ethical behavior in all academic endeavors. The following guidelines outline the principles of academic integrity that all students are required to abide by:

1. Plagiarism and Attribution:

  • Plagiarism, whether intentional or unintentional, is strictly prohibited. All sources, including but not limited to text, images, audio, and video, must be properly cited using an approved citation style.
  • Students must acknowledge the work of others and give credit to the original author or creator when using their ideas, research, or words.

2. Cheating and Unauthorized Assistance:

  • Cheating in any form, including but not limited to copying from others, using unauthorized aids during assessments, or giving or receiving assistance without permission, is considered a violation of academic integrity.
  • Collaboration is encouraged when allowed by the instructor, but students must adhere to the specified guidelines for group work and collaborative assignments.

3. Falsification and Fabrication:

  • Providing false information or fabricating data, sources, citations, or any academic material is prohibited.
  • Submitting work that is altered, falsified, or misrepresented in any way is considered a violation of academic integrity.

4. Ethical Conduct:

  • Respect for academic property and resources, including textbooks, technology, and classroom materials, is essential. Any misuse or damage to academic property is unacceptable.
  • Respecting the privacy and intellectual property rights of others, including classmates and instructors, is mandatory.

Consequences of Academic Integrity Violations: Violations of the Academic Integrity Policy may result in consequences, including but not limited to:

  • Lowered grades or a failing grade on the assignment or assessment
  • Parental notification
  • Loss of privileges
  • Academic probation or suspension

Reporting Violations: Students, teachers, and staff are encouraged to report suspected violations of academic integrity to the appropriate school authorities. Reports can be made anonymously, and confidentiality will be maintained during the investigation process.

Educational Resources and Support: Oceanside High School is committed to educating students about academic integrity. Resources and support will be provided to help students understand the importance of integrity, proper citation methods, and ethical conduct in academics.

Review and Amendment: This Academic Integrity Policy will be periodically reviewed and updated as needed. Amendments or changes will be communicated to the school community accordingly.
