Principal’s Welcome Letter - 2019

Dear Students and Parents,

I am very excited to serve as your principal at Oceanside High School, and I look forward to working with you, supporting our students.  As an Oceanside High parent myself and member of this community, I value the collaboration of all stakeholders, parents, community members, industry partners, teachers, and students to enhance opportunities for our children.

Oceanside High School has a long tradition of championship athletic programs, an award-winning performing arts program, and student driven clubs such as National Honor Society, Junior Civitans, and Gerard Prep.  As a 1985 graduate of Oceanside High School, these long standing traditions are very important to me. With our three career pathways, we truly have an emphasis on 21st century skills that prepare students to excel in college and their careers.  The three career pathways are: Public Service Pathway, consisting of Health Careers Academy, Academy of Justice and Teach to Learn Academy; Environmental Science & Engineering Pathway, consisting of Environmental Science Academy and Engineering Academy; and Arts, Digital Media and Design Pathway, consisting of the Digital Media Academy and the Visual & Performing Arts Academy.  Utilizing a California Teaching Incentive Grant, we have been able to purchase state of the art technology such as engineering computers, CnC machines, 3D printers, interactive anatomy tables, Macbooks, and cameras, as well as grounding the work in Project Lead the Way and Linked Learning in order to ensure all pathways and academies have a hands on, rich, relevant learning experiences.

Our focus this year is building connectedness and relationships with all stakeholders, advancing equity through comprehensive and integrated student supports, and project based learning.  Utilizing our interdisciplinary professional learning communities, we are collaboratively pursuing innovation in our classrooms.

Through our shared belief in our Pirate core values (Pride, Integrity, Relationships, Achievement, Teamwork, Excellence, and Services) we have a positive school culture.  Our staff and students value the diverse culture and deep rooted traditions of this 113-year old educational institution.

We are privileged to be serving your child and are committed to working with them to plan and prepare for their future.

Sincerely,

Teresa Hill Collis
