Course Selection & Changes

➕ Can I change my classes after the deadline?

After Spring Break, our master schedule is built based on student requests. Changes after this date are only made for "leveling" (e.g., moving from AP to General) or if there is an error in your schedule, provided there is space available.

➕ What if I didn't get the elective I wanted?

While we try our best to honor all requests, some classes fill up quickly. This is why listing "Alternate" choices on your request form is so important!

➕ How do I know if I should take Dual Enrollment or AP classes?

We recommend looking at your current grades and talking to your current teachers. You can also view our Course Catalog to see the expected workload for these advanced courses.

➕ We just moved here over the summer; how do we get a schedule?

Welcome to the OHS family! First, please complete the District’s Online Enrollment.

Once that is fully processed, our registrar will reach out to you to schedule a meeting with your assigned counselor to select classes.

➕ When will I find out who my counselor is?

Counselors at OHS are assigned by student last name. You can find the "Alpha-Split" chart and contact information on our Counseling page under the "Counseling Team" section.

➕ What is the school schedule like? (The 4x4 Block)

OHS operates on a 4x4 Block Schedule, which is designed to mirror a college environment. Instead of 6 or 7 short classes all year, students take 4 deep-dive classes per term.

The "4x4" Explained: Students take 4 classes in the Fall and 4 different classes in the Spring (8 total per year).
90-Minute Periods: Longer periods allow for labs, projects, and focused learning.
Wednesday Advisory: Every Wednesday includes a dedicated Advisory Period for academic support and counselor lessons.

*Note: Because the pace is doubled, one quarter at OHS is equivalent to one full semester at a traditional school.

Graduation and Requirements

➕ What is the difference between Graduation Requirements and A-G Requirements?

Graduation requirements are the specific credits you need to earn an OHS diploma.

"A-G" requirements are the specific set of classes required to be eligible for admission to UC and CSU universities. While they overlap, A-G often requires additional years of Math, Science, or World Language.

➕ Does my middle school transcript count toward high school graduation?

Generally, no. High school credits officially begin in 9th grade.

However, your middle school Math and World Language levels are used to place you into the correct "next level" course. For example, completing Spanish 1 in 8th grade may allow you to start in Spanish 2 as a freshman.

➕ How does the 4x4 schedule affect my student's grades?

Because a 4x4 schedule moves at double the pace of a traditional schedule, one quarter is equivalent to an entire semester of work. It is crucial that students stay on top of assignments, as missing one week of school is like missing two weeks in a traditional system!
