Vision and Mission Statement

The Oceanside High School Social Studies Department is committed to creating an academic program that meets the needs of our multicultural student population, one that is ready to face the challenges of twenty-first century schools and is second to none. Our vision is to help students know the past, and engage in the present so that they may impact the future. Students will study social, political, and economic issues that have shaped and continue shaping the world we live in. Our goals include vertically and horizontally integrating our curriculum in order to guide our students in making deeper connections between Social Sciences, other academic disciplines, as well as their daily lives. We are committed to using data to drive our curriculum, and to better meet the needs of ever diverse student populations the department will incorporate such strategies as teaching Academic Vocabulary, encourage reading through Reading Counts and promote post-high school education by integrating College and Career studies to the curriculum. The goal of the Oceanside High School Social Studies Department is to facilitate our students’ understanding of the complexities and challenges in becoming contributing citizens in twenty-first century America.
